i love shooters, and some sports games, but this game is the best sports game out. THe graphics are fabulous, and it has a very origional control scheme, and its not like in the game the skater gets better, the actual person has to get better which is very cool. also i used to be a tony haw fanatic but skate. totally blows tony hawk games out of the water
Amazing ea does it again

Skating it's way to victory

Tony Hawk has had hardly any competition in video game skating, as most skating games are rare. So Tony Hawk, happily skating along with its arcade joy with nothing in its way. Until now.
EA have now entered the world of skating Video Games. With there new game skate. This is no “Rip-off” of the Tony Hawk series. This brings a fresh start to a skating game, which is needed.
Story: 5 /10
Ok, there isn't a great deal of depth in the story. It starts out with you, being in a accident and having to work your way back up the ranks. You do this by getting coverage in the two skateboarding mags; Skateboard Mag and Thrasher. You do this through film challenges, photo challenges, death racing and specific tasks. Along the way you meet pro's who help you get sponsors, which ultimately give you more cash to spend. That's about it. Not much there, but reasonable.
Graphics: 9.5/ 10
The graphics in skate. Are just mind-blowing. It's a fairly large city, and it looks wonderful. Everything seems to scale. Your created character's expressions look nice and the clothes are detailed, move in time with what's going on. Overall your character moves and looks very nice. Although, the character models around you are repeated frequently. This sort of detracts from the overall look. The floor in different sections look like they should. Concrete has little dips and bumps in it, while marble is smooth and shines. The pro's look very similar to there real life counterparts. EA has produced a very lively, beautiful city. That's a pleasure to skate in.
Sound: 8/10
If it were a rating on just sound effects alone, this would be a 10, for sure. Everything sounds very realistic, the board makes different noises on different terrain. If a car passed by it would make a noise as it would in life. When you pick up speed sometimes the wheels become louder. When you perform an Ollie it makes a very nice “Ka-plunk” noise, as you take off and land it. If you kick flip, you can here it spin in the air. it's a very engrossing experience. But, the reason this is an 8/10, is because of the music. Its got some very nice soundtracks in it. But the same song is always repeated. But most of the time, there is no music at all. Only the sound of moving traffic. It detracts from the gaming experience on a whole.
Game play: 8.5/10
This is where the game out stands, and where its minor flaws are. The games control system really sets it apart from most sport titles. It has a control method similar to Fight Nights right analogue stick control. You feel alienated at first but soon get accustomed. You use the right analogue stick to perform all your tricks. To Ollie, you pull it back, and quickly push it forward. If you want to perform a flip trick, you push it down, and push it upwards but slightly to the left or right. Once you get used to this new control system, you wont want to mash buttons to perform 1,000,000 combo's. But the biggest flaw for some, is the camera angle. Yo

Tony Hawk's Skateboarding Games have one best skateboarding game for eight years due to default. It is almost as if no company has the guts to even try until now. EA has entered the skateboarding competition. Skate takes you back to what skateboarding is all about, finding the perfect spot, finding sick lines, and realistic physics; its not about doing a triple backflip 360 while doing a Christ Air. One thing Skate does that is a helluva lot better than Tony Hawk is freedom. You skate around a huge fictional city called San Vanenola. The graphics are pretty impressive from afar but when you get close to something like a car it can get nasty. One of Skate's coolest things is its control. Instead mashing buttons you use the analog sticks adding a fun addicting style of gameplay. Skate adds a fresh new take on a skateboarding that has a potential of being better than the Tony Hawk games if they add a few things. First off you should be able to get off your board. I know the company was trying to stay to the roots of skateboarding, but it is incredibly frustrating getting up stairs so you instead have to skate around the block for an hour to find a ramp. Second the multiplayer SUCKS! There is only to gametypes and both get old fast. And lastly the pedestrians. They have proven to be incredibly annoying obstacles. Skate has more than enough potential to be better than the Tony Hawk games once it works on those kinks. I have to give it to EA they almost topped a game 9 years in the making in there first game. Skate has avery positive future.
WHAT DO YOU THINK: The Tony Hawk series was the only one in the skateboarding video game fight for a long time until Skate came along. What series do you think is better, Skate or Tony Hawk?

this game is awesome it keeps it realistic and doesnt go overboard with exaggarations like tony hawk games do.all though i found sum of the challenges to be a bit difficult and the game to have a little bit more to it it was still one of the best skating games made. the only flaw would be the fact you cant get off your board.
Very realistic

The game play of skate is unmatched by any other with its flick it controls you fell like your skating. And unlike tony hawk you cant go 100ft in the air .. :)... which is a good thing.
It still has some unrealistic qualities like being able to front flip down a 5 stair but is still definetly worth the money.
WOW

this game is amazing. You get to start off creating your own skating and then make your way to the top of the skating world by being in and on the cover of magazines. This even features the X Games. The soundtrack contains some really cool tracks but your not going to really hear them. Graphicly it is better than tony hawk and it is much more realistic. If you have to choose a skating game choose this one. Even though it isn't perfect it is still really good. I give it a final score of 4.8/5.0

Is amazing. The flickit control gives you the feel of great skating. It isn't like tony hawk where you can beat the game in an hour. Its never ending. I think everyone should get this game
Better than THPS!

Pros: Physics-driven gameplay, more realistic feel than THPS, amazing graphics, and big fun open world (makes you want to create lines then nail them successfully)
Cons: You get lost in the world sometimes, and long loading times when you do load (not that often.
