I never had a SNES or N64 (which is why I cant wait for the Wii) so I missed out on a lot of good Zelda games. This was the first Zelda game I played since Link's Awakening for the Gameboy. It is probably one of my favorite GCN games. Zelda is a great adventure series and Wind Waker follows suit. I love cel shading, so this game was geogeous in my eyes. Only downside was sailing. The world is huge, so getting from place to place can take awhile.
Pros:
-Zelda at its finest
-Great gameplay
-Fun fighting, puzzles
-Lots to do, high replay value
Cons:
-Sailing
graphics don't mean a thing

the only problem is sailing the game was great throughout but I got very bored and quit when trying to find the triforce peices and I had the special tornado powers
Cell shaded maddness

I don’t know about you, but when I first saw Windwaker, I had my doubts. The cell shading just wasn’t doing it for me. But then I got it anyway, just cause it’s Zelda. So I popped in the disc and it was like an explosion of complete awesomeness.
The action is wonderful. With the addition of new equipment and a new array of sword moves you’re constantly entranced. Then the environment is a completely new take on Zelda. You’re in the middle of the flipping ocean. And instead of trusty Epona, you have this skiff that sails you around everywhere. I love it.
The puzzles are just as challenging in this Zelda as in any other and there’s always those wonderful mini games to be played.
And the cell shading, well, that’ll grow on you like a batch of E-Coli on a fresh piece Canadian bacon at room temperature.
It's Zelda, with pretty cel shading.

OK, so this game is pretty good.
I believe it's only fair to compare it to it's predecessors, however. If you love Zelda, then you might be a little bit disappointed that the game just feels kind of lacking. I really feel that it did not deliver. As many people will tell you, the sailing is absolutely boring after a while! You will enjoy it for a while, just because it's different and looks pretty sweet.
Overall, the game's gameplay is fine, which should be no surprise.
The game is beautiful, which is always welcome. As a huge fan of Zelda, I'm afraid I'm going to have to give this game a 4, as it does not come close to living up to A Link to the Past or Ocarina of Time. Sorry!
P.S. - Did I mention that this game looks simply amazing?
Maybe best Zelda game (except OoT)

This is a great game if you are a Zelda fan because it has a follow up to one of the old zeldas, and that is cool.

I was so excited for this game to come out even though I didn't like Link's new look. After playing the game, I quickly came to love everything about it, especially the new Link. The characters in this game were great, and the storylines were fun and interesting. Best of all, there is lots of action . . . even while you are on the open sea. The Windwaker definitely did not disappoint!
Awesome!

I was not a fan of the graphics at first, but after I played I changed my tone. The game is gorgeous and so much fun. I actually had the game a long time before I finally started playing...I have no idea why I waited so long. Definitely try it if you love the Zelda series.

This game rocks. It received a lot of negative criticism regarding the cartoon graphics, but this is uncalled for as the game plays great and looks great.
Some people want voices and speaking, but I still enjoy the murmer sounds and reading the text. That way I don't miss anything.
I don't know how long it took me to finish, but the ending blew me away... enough said.
I didn't like the sailing aspect. What I mean is the long time that it took to get from A to B. The warps did help, but there should have been an easier way to jump to each island and at the same time allow the user to sail if they want.
Highly recommended!

This game is worth beating because once you beat it you get some extras. Some of the extras are Link's pajamas, once you beat the game and save the game onto another slot Link wears his pajamas through the rest of the game. Another extra is when you save the file onto another slot you get the color pictograph. When you save it if you name your account Zelda you will hear some (slightly) different background music.

Sure, the main issue players will have with this game is the look; either they love it or they hate it. Personally, I find it to be endearing, and while I prefer the look of Twilight Princess to WindWaker, both are interesting in their own ways.
As far as the game play is concerned, there's no surprise here. For the most part, the game plays similarly to Ocarina of Time. However, that's not a bad thing!
In total, the game is lengthy, well-written and entertaining to the last. It's a worthwhile endeavor for long-time Zelda fans as well as those that are new to the game.

Awesome game w/ tons to do.
Not much replay value though, unless u wanna play the game all over again with Link in his pajamas :D
I guess the game's team put so much into it that there was none left over for replay value.
Other than that the game is awesome. Tons and tons of side-quests. The sailing can get a little tidious at times but later on u get a teleportation song so it does get better.
Again Awesome Game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this game was really great- it was fun and entertaining, and ther was tons to do. but, i'm sure as many others will tell you, despite all that, and the fact that the cel shading is pretty good, no, rephrase, AWESOME (who knew that zelda as a freaking cartoon would be so amazing?), the sailing is just boring and annoying. honestly, youve played halfway through the game and you're searching for triforce pieces, and youre starting to get bored out of your mind. it takes away that much from the game, because despite the fact that everything else is great, your in the middle of the freaking ocean on a boat wanting to slit links wrists. other than that... the action is awesome, the graphics entrancing, and the new sword moves sweet. great game.
They've done it again!

Nintendo has once again made a fine addition to the old Zelda series. This game puts a new spin on the classic running around in Zelda games, by taking running and exchanging it with sailing. Some think that's annoying, but it's just the same as running around. This game is a prime example of Nintendo's greatness. Though it's not graphically advanced, it has the great game-play and feel that all Zelda games have had. Here's the rating system.
Graphics - 3/5 Not bad. Not a cartoon fan but not bad.
Game-play - 4.5/5 The sailing adds a topspin to the original way of getting around in the RPG realm. The fighting system is as great as ever.
Replay Value - 4/5 You can play this again and again.
Controls - 4/5 The user friendly controls in this game make it easy to play.
Side Quests - 4/5 Plenty of mini-games and side quests to add on to the main story.
Story - 3/5 The classic saving the princess song and dance. They put a nice twist to it though.
Total Value - 3.7/5 A very good game. I highly recommend this to RPG lovers and new gamers alike. The only con is that it's much easier to get lost, since the oceanic areas look alike.

This game is great. I beat it but didn't collect all of the extras (darn). Oh well better luck next time for me. Anyways Wind Waker is a great game because of the storyline, how u move around in a boat, and the wind waker. This game gets a 5 star rating from me.

The main difference between this Zelda and past Zelda's is that Miyamoto is no longer designing/directing it, and thus, the new director is giving it a much more epic feel. Everyone who has played the Japanese version has said that it definatly has the deepest story out of any of the Zelda's ever made - in fact, it is the first Zelda to have a true emphasis on plotline. Not only this, but this is also the first Zelda to have multiple continents and islands that you can sail to with a ship. The world is so huge that on a quick ship it can take as much as 15 minutes to sail from one location to the other (in Final Fantasy for comparison sailing from one end of the world to the other only takes about 2 minutes).
LENGTH
PlanetGamecube themselves gave the game a 10/10 and said the only problem the game had was that the world was TOO huge. This game will take you 40 hours to complete (if you are very fast and direct) but is filled with well over 100 hours of sidequests and other things to do. In fact, this game is probably packed with more sidequests than any game ever made.
CEL SHADING
Anyone who shys away from this game because of the graphics are definatly missing out. Those graphics are actually more difficult for a console to render and more difficult for developers to make than the great polygonal graphics we are all used to. Not only this, but I, having witnessed the game myself at a Nintendo Cube Club, have noticed that up close this game is beautiful. Do not be fooled by screenshots, they do not do the game justice. The animation in this game is amazing and at the Cube Club (a club containing over 20 gamecube games), Zelda definatly stood out as the one with the most impressive and flawless art design and graphics.
GAMEPLAY
The gameplay itself is very similar to Zelda: Ocarina of Time although with many enhancements and improvisations. Plenty of fighting, exploring, and puzzle solving. This time, however, the gimmick is wind rather than time (in Ocarina of times case). Wind is constantly blowing at a specific velocity and direction at any moment in the game. It effects everything - from how your boat sails and in what direction to which way Link's cap swings in the air. Many puzzles will also use the wind and there are items to manipulate it.
MUSIC
And then there is the music..the music of the new Zelda definatly makes one of the greatest gaming soundtracks in history. Classical Zelda tunes remade in orchestral glory and plenty of new songs as well. The music is completly orchestrated and if you have a surround sound setup..drools.
IMMERSIVE WORLD - ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
Perhaps the number 1 thing that people who have played the new Zelda comment on is that it is perhaps the most immersive game ever made. Link has about 20 facial expressions which all convey what he is feeling at any given time. All characters in towns have artificial intelligence (they dont just stand there or run around in circles like in most Zelda/RPG

I spent soooo much time on this game. I'd place it as one of my favorites, but now that I've beaten it - I'm not going through that again. The graphics were pretty fantastic - if you like cartoons. I personally do, and this was like controlling a cartoon show - which I thought was very cool. Great bosses, tricks, and worlds - just like the other zeldas - but beware of how many life units you spend on finishing the game!

This was my first Zelda game, so I had no idea what it was going to be like except that it involved some midget in a weird looking boat from the cover. However, it was much more than that. It requires a lot of attention to detail in what tool to use etc. There was also a lot of stuff to do on the different islands. The graphics seem to be what a lot people complain about, but I didn't find it to be a problem. the bosses were still menacing and it didn't detract from the epic effect. But all the sailing got really boring, so that was why this got a 4 instead of a 5.

My Intro to Zelda

I was never a Zelda fan. Truth be told i'd only heard about Zelda on Xplay. But finally I decided enough was enough and I bought a gamecube. Or rather my boyfriend did.
Wow!!
For its console of choice windwaker delivers. There are so many things to do, to collect. So many puzzles to solve. I hated the octopus like things. In fact still hate them since i can't use the bow and arrow really well. I loved sailing everywhere on the red lion, competing against the clock in the boating course.
The picture puzzles in cabana house gave me something to do when I decide to steer clear from my enemies. The ending was great and I patiently waited for the next installment. Twillight prince...that was awesome.

The Zelda series is one of those rpgs which has defined and revolutionized it's genre for many years. Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, a title exclusive to the GameCube, continues this tradition with this 3d action rpg set approximately 100 or so years after Zelda: Ocarina of Time. You play as young Link whose sister has been kidnapped and so you set off with a band of pirates in order to rescue her.
The adventurous quest is filled with many twists and turns, familiar creatures and weaponry, and fun battles as is present in most of this series' games. Needless to say, LOZ: WW is a Must Have title for any Zelda collector. And if you haven't played it yet or aren't a zelda fan yet, rent it. You won't be disappointed. Graphics are kiddie styled, but this only adds to the charm of the game and personally, I think it looks great. One could do a lot worse than to pick up and play this title, that's for sure

Story is Great.
Challenge is more then Adequate.
