I can't say much bad about this game besides that it should have been in english, but not enough talking to worry about. This is ranked among my favorite games of all time dating back to NES.
Pretty Sweet

Have to agree with bajebba's review. Really only thing wrong is it should have been in English, but there is not enough talking to make a big deal about it. Original and cool concept.

The scenery and the sheer size of the colossus' are awe inspiring. This game was a big leap for the ps2. I have played and beaten this game several times and it still doesnt get old for me.
You will either like it or hate it

Other people mention the greatest point about this game: the colossi are huge, and great to see on screen. That's fine, however, this game can be pretty frustrating. Not just in beating some of the colossi, but in the story and length. This game is about a 10 hour game, give or take. Now, that is not enough for me, I would have appreciated it if there was more gameplay, even if it has nothing to do with the leaders. At least maybe a sidequest or two.
Also, to say the story is lacking is an understatement. When I was done with this game, I was thinking, "what did I just play?" And "what just happened?" when the final LONG (which is good) cut scene finished. There is very little in the way of explaining anything. Where did he get the sword? Who is the woman? Who is the voice? Anyway, the game doesn't tell you anything throughout, but tells you a bit at the end, with kind of a cheap cop out ending.
Add the poor translation, and then it adds up to a mediocre game, that would really get 1 star if it wasn't for the greatly and well done colossi throughout. All of them, except for maybe 1 or 2, are great to behold and are fun to fight against, minus a few frustrating and boring parts and boring navigation to get to them. But, it is a game that I would play again, not for the story, but just to play against those big guys. Not too bad, but nothing great either.
THE greatest game???

ok.. i rest assure when i say, this game belongs in the top 3 of the best of all ps2 games, and maybe even xbox, hmm?? better than halo?? no, not if you look at the story, the story sucks, if you want to know the whole storyline, go and buy ICO with it, maybe it was their plan to give out 2 games to buy, but i think it backfired.. the story doesn't say anything about who you are, what you've done and what all of this is, it is only at the very end that some thing are actually explained...
nevertheless.. I can say that my life wasn't complete until i played this game, just super fantastic gameplay, defeating giants (and i mean GIANTS) with only your sword and bow and arrow, smashing into it's weak points and giving a great cinematic look on the movie-like beasts, 'beasts? no, I can't say that, they are mythical creatures made out of lifeforce, nature and stone... and I was eager to see the next one everytime I defeated a creature.. and it doesn't stop there, just riding on your horse through the HUUUGE landscape fills you with humbleness, as you are a small being riding forward to this god-like creatures.. now I can say: this IS one of the best games in history...

This is one of the most fantastic amazing game I ever play since u got to fight over 16 Gigantic monster and that guy in the cover of the game is ur first boss. This game is unique because u only have ur sword and bow and ur horse the hold time that all u can use and the graphic is really mixture and intense make everything nice and real. But one thing that bother me the most is the camera sometime get in the way and very annoying
very fun but also very challenging

for this u not only need to have pretty good reflexs but u also need brains. u are a man trying to take down all of the Colossi(sing.). U have to use ur knowledge of the animals that they portray to find all of their weak spots. attack with arrow and bow or a dagger.
A nice-change-of-pace...

A lot of games/TV shows/movies these days seem to try to overcome their shortcomings by filling the screen with as much stimuli/mini-games as possible in order to keep you from focusing on their glaring deficiencies. While this may work as a distraction the first time you encounter them, you all too quickly see through such illusions very quickly.
Shadows of Colossus takes the exact opposite approach by placing the player in a world practically barren of anything else except your avatar, his horse/silent companion and providing you only with a quest to seek out and destroy 16 giant giants known as Colossi.
There are no sidequests or other bells/whistles to satisfy those in need of constant stimulation. Rather, you are faced with a lonely journey that takes you throughout the beautiful yet isolated landscape in order to hunt down your opponents. Satisifaction comes from successfully finding out how to reach the various Colossi and then finding out the best way to take them down.
Detractors will say that this game is too slow-paced but I believe that this helps heighten the narrative of the story as you go about your seemingly impossible quest with only your faithful horse as your only companion. The only thing that bugged me was that a couple of the Colossi seemed like replicas of each other; in a game where you only have 16 characters to face, this was a little bit of a disappointment.
For those who were turned off by the language (not english) that was used in this game, I found that the language used was appropriate for the fantasty-like setting that the game takes place in and helped establish the mood of the game. Ico also did not employ english and still was an enjoyable experience. Regardless, it is a trivial criticism that should not put off those who are looking for an enjoyable gaming experience.
Underrated Must Buy Game!

Shadow Of The Colossus is one of the most underrated titles available on the Playstation 2. Perhaps due in part to it's almost too serene gameplay. After all, everything in this game is a visual feast for the eyes. Beautiful landscapes, fluidic character motion, and creatures so impressively massive and incredible that at times you almost hate to have to "destroy" them. The music is well composed and soft and is usually only present when the player approaches a creature, I believe.
Actually, I haven't played the game in quite awhile so I'm not really 100% sure that there is any music at all...lol. But I do remember that the battles were not overshadowed by raging music, so perhaps the music complimented the battles so nicely that I have forgotten. At any rate, there is lots of exploration, puzzle solving, and majestic battles to be had in this game.
Did I mention how vast this game is? The player can literally wander around on his horse and get lost simply looking at the beautifully rendered landscapes. In fact, my goddaughter did just that. She didn't like having to kill the "nice monsters" because they weren't bothering her while she rode her horse around. It made her sad whenever I killed one simply to complete an objective and advance the storyline. Yes, all she did was simply ride the horse around to different lands and look around. Sometimes for over an hour. lol.
Shadow of The Colossus is NOT a mindless violent "kill the bad creatures" game either because as I said earlier there are some creatures so beautiful and serene that you wonder why you are attacking them when all they seem to be are gentle giants (at least until you attack them). What the game actually is is a telling look into the blind violent nature we as humans accept without question. Once you see the ending and discover why you've been killing all of the Colossi (that's plural for Colossus, folks ) you'll understand the poignant message this game is actually conveying.
Get the game. Play it. Enjoyment is a given.
