Metroid Prime

Great FPS on September 25, 2006

Too bad FPSs arent my cup of tea. This is one of the few FPSs that I enjoyed, though. Great adventure game. I love the puzzle/exploration aspect of this game, however. If FPSs were less about running around and shooting, and more solving puzzles and exploring worlds, I'd love the genre.

Pros:
-Great gameplay and controls--Retro knows what they are doing
-Beautiful
-Great exploration game (can get lost though)
-One of my (few) favorite FPSs
-Great boss battles--huge monsters, and tough to beat
-Great soundtrack, like all Metroid games

Cons:
-Steep learning curve for people who haven't played FPSs (IMO), but maybe all FPSs are like that. If you are new to the genre, another game may ease you into it than this one.
-I played this during a time when I had at most 10 minutes to devote to gaming. Not a game that can be played in 10 min. intervals. Set some time aside. I hope to get back to this game when I have a free week.
-Going along with the above, saving is a problem. You can't just stop anywhere you want and save. With the way I play video games, I need that in a game. Some people don't, but I do, so I found that annoying.

Super Monkey Ball 2

Monkeys + Balls = Genius on September 25, 2006

Great, great, great game. Banana Blitz for Wii will be INCREDIBLE. Challenging puzzles and fun multiplayer. I can't really describe this game to someone who hasn't seen it. You are a monkey in a ball, and you try to get through these maze-like levels. Sounds simple, and maybe a little stupid...but it works, and it's incredibly fun.

Pros:
-Fun, addicting
-Very original

Cons:
-A few good mini games. Most I played once or twice and haven't looked at since.
-Wii game will have 50 mini games 50!!! Won't want to come back to this once I play that game.

Ikaruga

I love this genre. Quick reflexes and small odds of survival. Very fun game. One of my favorite shooters. So much more fun with two players. Top-scrolling shooter, but with a twist. Change your color to change your polarity. When you're white, you get killed by black bullets, and can kill black enemies easier. And vice versa when you're black. And when you're one color, when you are hit by bullets of the same color, you gain what I like to call "laser juice" which you can build up and release in an awesome bomb attack, which clears many enemies around you. Very original.

Pros:
-Fun and addicting
-Fast paced
-Bullet Hell Shmups rock
-Co-op play is awesome

Cons:
-5 chapters...takes long to beat, but once you beat them, you want more

SEGA Soccer Slam

Fun...as long as you have friends on September 25, 2006

This is a fun multiplayer game. As with Mario Strikers, the single player is limited, but there's lots of fun to be had multiplayer.

Pros:
-Mulitplayer
-Crazy Soccer Gameplay

Wario Ware Twisted!

I love WarioWare. Quick, short, quirky minigames one after the other. This game has you turning and twisting the GBA to achieve several goals. Gets a little dizzying after awhile, though.

Pros:
-Great WarioWare gameplay
-Good portable game-can play for 5 minutes, or for many hours

Cons:
-Twisting GBA gets dizzying

Mega Man Anniversary Collection

I remember playing these back in the day on September 09, 2006

Nothing like a good dose of nostalgia. Includes Mega Man 1-8. Great, challenging games, but with auto-fire added in.

Pros:
-Classic Mega Man titles
-Auto-fire makes some of the games actually beatable

Cons:
-These Mega Man games are still some of the hardest I've ever played

Donkey Kong Jungle Beat

This game will give you quite the workout. It's a platformer...but with bongos! Hit the right bongo to move right, hit the left to go left, hit both the jump, even clap! Very fun game. Got nice and sweaty after each gaming session.

Pros:
-Very unique gameplay
-Fun levels and bosses

Cons:
-Tiring

Resident Evil 4

Best game on GCN on September 09, 2006

No doubt...best game for the GCN. Fun, freaky, and extremely addicting.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker

A+ on September 09, 2006

I never had a SNES or N64 (which is why I cant wait for the Wii) so I missed out on a lot of good Zelda games. This was the first Zelda game I played since Link's Awakening for the Gameboy. It is probably one of my favorite GCN games. Zelda is a great adventure series and Wind Waker follows suit. I love cel shading, so this game was geogeous in my eyes. Only downside was sailing. The world is huge, so getting from place to place can take awhile.

Pros:
-Zelda at its finest
-Great gameplay
-Fun fighting, puzzles
-Lots to do, high replay value

Cons:
-Sailing

Super Smash Bros. Melee

Do I even have to explain why this game gets a 5/5? One of my favorite fighting games of all time. Great gameplay, great controls, great character selection (for the most part). A must-have for multiplayer fun.

Pros:
-Mulitplayer madness
-One of the best fighting games out there, definitely the best for GCN
-Whether you're a beginner or an advanced fighter, this game will meet your needs.

Cons:
-Lackluster Adventure Mode
-I hate the Ice Climbers

Nintendogs: Dachshund & Friends

It was fun for a bit...Playing with your puppy, talking your puppy for a walk, training your puppy for the dog show. It got old, though. And I don't know if my dog was stupid, but it never responded when I called its name.

-You get to pick up poop! ...ok, well, not a real pro

Super Mario Sunshine

Fun, but not the best Mario on September 09, 2006

Great game, unique gameplay with the Water Cannon. Another good Mario game, but its not the best. Biggest fault: the camera is terrible. Other than that, I had fun playing the game.

Pros:
-3D Mario...with a water cannon
-Fun levels
-Tough boss levels

-Stupid camera...killed me so many times

Beautiful, fun, and challenging. That's all I have to say. Inventive gameplay. Gets really hard at times, though.

This game has the best use for the stylus. Draw Kirby's path, stun his enemies, and charge up attacks. Innovative and extremely fun.

-Great replay value (beat the game with different characters with different abilities)

Tetris DS

The Theme still makes me dance on September 09, 2006

Tetris at its best. Lots of modes and multiplayer/online is fun. Very addicting. Never ceases to amaze me that a game so simple can be so captivating.

Pros:
-It's Tetris
-Cool new modes
-Multiplayer and Online play is great

Cons:
-My girlfriend rocks at the game and beats me every time

Metroid Prime: Hunters

Started off pretty good....but.... on September 09, 2006

This game was a blast at the beginning, but with cramping hands and gameplay not as great as the GCN Prime series, it got old. I only pick this game up to play online, nowadays. Online play is awesome, though....unless you play people who are either cheating, or really good.

Pros:
-Online play
-Train your skills by playing against bots

Cons:
-Cheaters online
-Single player mode not that great
-OUUCHH!! My hand!

Mario Kart DS

Great racing game, one of my favorites. Even though Nintendo's Wifi Service isn't that great, online play is fun. Great game for multiplayer, as well. Lots of replay value if you want to get 3 Stars on every course.

-Always takes awhile to find opponents online

Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow

I had never played a Castlevania game prior to this. I REALLY need to play catch up. This game is great! Fun and challenging. Multiple endings add replay value.

Wario Ware Touched!

If you've never played a WarioWare game...what's wrong with you? This is another fun addition to the WarioWare library. The game uses the touch screen wonderfully and works seemlessly. WarioWare is one of the most addicting game series I've played and this game is no exception to the rule.

Super Mario 64 DS

This was the DS first game I played and no matter how many times I try to go back and play it, I just can't This game is more frustrating than anything else. The touch screen doesn't work too well in this game and just ends up getting me killed.

-It's Mario 64, which is an awesome game

I'm not usually a fan of RPGs, but I can't help but love this game. It's more of an action-RPG in that you can hit A at certain times in the battle to inflict more damage, and I like that extra interactivity. Not too lengthy, but not too short either.

Pros:
-Fun, fairly quick pace
-RPG + Action
-Great fight sequences
-Tough Bosses
-Funny storyline

Cons:
-Baby Mario is sooooo irritating

This game is good for a quick pick-up-and-play kind of gaming. It's fun...very limited....but still fun. I keep going back to this game wanting to better my score (over 1800g by the way)...enough bragging ;)

Trauma Center: Under the Knife

I never thought I would like a surgery game, but this game is too fun to not tell people about. Fast paced, extremely engaging and fun, and even frustrating...but in a good way. I have never screamed so loud at my DS than after some failures on certain surgeries.

Pros:
-Fun, addictive
-Great story
-Inventive use of Stylus

Cons:
-Frustrating at times
-Sometimes the touch screen can be fickle...only really affects you if you're going for score, though

Super Princess Peach

I love platformers...always have, always will. I bought this game with absolutely no expectations, but it turned out to be a really fun game. It's cute, it's cuddly, it's fun. As with New Super Mario Bros. DS, it's on the short side, but definitely worth the money I paid for it.

Pros:
-Surprisingly fun
-Nice use of touch screen

Cons:
-Puzzle solving on the easy side
-Mini-games are so-so

Mmmm....Nostalgia on September 08, 2006

I loved this game. Brought me back to the NES days. Only problem I have with the game: its too short. I think I beat the game in a week. Multiplayer is the most addicting part of the game. Get a friend, and play some minigames with him/her. Before you know it, it's 2 hours later.

Pros:

-The usual Mario secrets are present
-Multiplayer is AWESOME

-Too Short
-Even though it got hard at some points, a relatively easy game
